Plano homes from the 1970s boom
Plano had 17,872 residents in 1970 and 72,331 in 1980, and the 2020-2024 American Community Survey counts about 16,250 homes from that decade, roughly three-quarters of everything built before 1980. Some of those houses were finished in 1978 or 1979 and are outside the rules. The rest are prime candidates for testing as their original kitchens, baths and windows come due for replacement.
Lead paperwork for city rebates
Plano's Great Update Rebate is for houses 30 years or older, and its application checklist asks for a signed Disclosure of Information on Lead-Based Paint and/or Lead-Based Paint Hazards. The form says city staff inspect only to verify program requirements and that it is the owner's responsibility to retain qualified professionals for lead-based paint. Signing it is not a test; a test result gives you something concrete to disclose. Check current eligibility with the city; we make no promise that a project qualifies.
Once you know what is in the paint, our page on remodeling a house with lead paint covers the work itself. If the project is new windows or exterior doors, see lead-safe window and door replacement, or go back to Plano Lead Paint Removal for every service.
